WHY WEST DENVER PREP?

Small, Safe & Structured School Communities

- Small schools - no more than 325 students per school.

- High behavioral expectations for students and a positive school culture.

- A simple uniform for students. Uniforms reduce social stress, and build pride and a sense of belonging.

- Partnership with parents and guardians -- every student and family receives a 30 minute home visit prior to the start of school and has a teacher advisor who communicates with them every two weeks.

- Caring, fun teachers and weekly Community Meetings.

College-Preparatory Academics

- In 2010, West Denver Prep schools ranked 1st and 2nd among all public middle schools in Denver.

- Academics designed to prepare students for college, including two math and reading classes daily.

- Intervention and tutoring programs available.

- After-school homework center available along with evening homework assistance -- students have their teachers' phone numbers and are encouraged to call them with questions until 8:00pm.

- A longer school day and school year - more compatible with working parents and more time for students to build academic skills.

- College campus field trips each year.

An Education For The Whole Child, From Middle School Through College

- Teaching and caring for the "whole" student, including character education.

- Athletics available through Denver Parks and Recreation, including flag football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball.

- Enrichment programs Monday through Thursday including art, cooking, sports, languages and more.

- Special Education services available.

- Ongoing support and guidance for alumni, including college-prep fairs, ACT test assistance, and volunteer opportunities.

- The first West Denver Prep high school is planned for 2012!
