All students entering sixth grade are eligible to apply to West Denver Prep. There are no academic requirements for acceptance – all that is requested is basic contact information and a commitment to our core values as indicated in our Family Contract.
West Denver Prep students enter our school in the sixth grade and typically live in the surrounding neighborhoods. As a public school under a charter from the Denver Board of Education, West Denver Prep admits students by lottery in February each year.
Once admitted, our students rise to the high standards of academic excellence and character distinction established by West Denver Prep. Students participate in a longer school day, and complete challenging homework assignments daily. They wear a simple uniform and adhere to a rigorous code of conduct founded on incomparable respect for themselves and others.
Our students participate in double-blocks of Literacy and Math courses and receive individualized support after school to ensure mastery of core content areas and excellent performance on the Colorado State Assessment Program (CSAP). West Denver Prep holds weekly Community Meetings and daily Morning Meetings at which students communicate their learning with their peers, and develop excellent public speaking and self-advocacy skills.
At all times, students will live up to the school’s STRIVE values by conducting themselves according to the principles of Scholarship, Teamwork, Respect, Intelligence, Virtue, and Effort. Students will receive regular feedback on their conduct with respect to these principles through a school-wide rubric.
